The Third Sunday in Advent AD 2025
What are the mysteries of God of which Saint Paul calls himself the steward? First of all, it is the message about Jesus Christ, and about Him as the Crucified. Christ’s death on the cross of Calvary and His resurrection from the dead are, on the one hand, a truth revealed to us all, but on the other hand, it is a mystery – the mystery of God’s love, grace, mercy, and His often incomprehensible wisdom.
The fact that Paul and the other apostles, as well as their successors, are stewards of the mysteries of God means that the message about Jesus Christ has been entrusted to their care as a treasure, on the sharing of which the survival and eternal destiny of all of us depends.
If Christ had not died and risen, we would remain in our sins and die in them. But because Christ has died for our redemption and saved us from death and destruction by His resurrection, we can know that our sins are forgiven, our guilt is blotted out, and we are given the hope of eternal life.
The message of Christ’s death and resurrection is accompanied by other mysteries of God’s grace, especially the sacraments, through which God, the source of our existence, welcomes us into the reality of His own life. Separated from God, we are destined to die. To prevent this from happening, God sent His only begotten Son, who came to lay down His life for us and to give all who believe in Him new, eternal, and true life. He is the one who was meant to come – we don’t need to look for anyone else.
