Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity AD 2025

The Gospels tell of many occasions when someone sought Jesus. There were those who sought Him out of love – for example, Mary Magdalene on Easter morning. There were also those who sought Jesus out of selfishness – just as there are many today who love God’s miracles more than the God of miracles. And there were those who sought Jesus because they hated Him and wanted to get rid of Him.

So the Sadducees and Pharisees came to Jesus to tempt Him with their questions and trap Him in His words. It is noteworthy that Jesus treated even His enemies with extreme generosity: only on a few occasions He decided not to answer them, and most of the time His answers were profound and offered the questioners more than they had asked for – and in addition, the opportunity to turn away from their wickedness and repent.

Jesus not only answers questions, but He Himself is the answer to our most important questions – about the meaning of our existence, our true origin and purpose, and how to find the gracious God. In Jesus Christ, God Himself has come to us and found us. He has showered us with all the precious gifts of His grace. If we seek Him with sincere hart, not as the Pharisees and Sadducees did, He will give us – much more than we could ever ask.
