Ninth Sunday after Trinity AD 2025

Lust after evil things…  fornication… murmuring… Sounds like the most common description of everyday life in the so-called post-Christian world. The first thing to clarify here is that there is no post-Christian world. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and this means that everything His, He has all authority in heaven and on earth.

Unfortunately, it is true that humanity – including that part of humanity that has considered itself Christian – often lives as if Christ did not exist. As if Christ had not redeemed us from the slavery of sin, the devil, and death through His sacrifice on the cross. We make the same mistakes over and over again. Figuratively speaking, one could say that man, with all his intelligence, has invented the rake only to step on it again and again, despite all the trouble and misery he causes himself from generation to generation.

But just as it is true that there is no such thing as a post-Christian world, it is also true that Christ did not die in vain. Just as Christ accompanied the people of Israel on their escape from slavery in Egypt and their journey through the wilderness towards the Promised Land – this is exactly how Saint Paul describes it in today's Epistle – so He is also carrying us as a true spiritual Rock, so that we may not perish, but inherit eternal life.

God is faithful and will help us and stand for us – even in our daily struggle against lust, fornication, and murmuring.
