Saint Paul writes that God “has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son, in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus Christ, the Son of God and our Redeemer, is King, and we are subjects of His kingdom. Yet Christ’s kingdom is unlike any earthly kingdom, for His rule is founded upon His willingness to give Himself for our sake—even to the very end. Christ possesses all authority in heaven and on earth, but He does not exercise that authority through coercion. Instead, He calls us and patiently waits for us. He calls us with His love and awaits our love in return.
Through Him we were created, to Him we belong, and from Him we receive both this present life and the life to come. In Him dwells the fullness of God—and therefore also the fullness of love, for God is love. Such is our King: holy and perfect, yet willing to give everything so that we, His subjects, might inherit eternal life and the fullness of joy.
And even more than that: He desires that we should no longer be merely His subjects, but His brothers and sisters—children of the same heavenly Father whose Son He is. We no longer belong to this fallen world, estranged from God. Instead, we have been brought into His kingdom, where we are given a new life that will never end—the life of the eternal Kingdom of God and His beloved Son.
